The Transit Visa (Subclass 771) is for persons, who are transiting Australia to another country or passing through Australia to join a ship as crew.

The transit visa allows you to exit the airport area. In general a transit visa is required even if a traveller remains on the same aircraft in the same airport. The visa is valid for up to 72 hours

VISA APPLICATION
PROCESS


Step 1
Select a visa subclass which is appropriate for the purpose of your travel to Australia and download the relevant visa application form.

Please note: You can also obtain a visa application form at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).

Step 2
Your visa application may require supporting documentation For a list of supporting documentation required for your visa; see the checklists provided under “Visa Types”. Gather together required supporting documentation for your application.

To avoid delays all supporting documentation should be submitted at the time of application

Step 3
Make an appointment with the AVAC to lodge your application and submit your biometrics

Step 4
Lodge your visa application and submit your biometric data at an AVAC. The Australian Visa Office may contact you to request additional information.
