Student visas are for persons who wish to undertake a course of formal study. Persons who wish to undertake a course of less than three months' duration may study while holding a Tourist visa.

All students intending to apply for a student visa should check the Assessment Level and requirements that will apply to their application on the DIAC website

Student visas are only available to students who wish to undertake a registered course on a full-time basis. Visas are not available to part-time students or for studies by correspondence. For details of full-time, registered courses refer to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website

VISA APPLICATION
PROCESS


Step 1
Select a visa subclass which is appropriate for the purpose of your travel to Australia and download the relevant visa application form.

Please note: You can also obtain a visa application form at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).

Step 2
Your visa application may require supporting documentation For a list of supporting documentation required for your visa; see the checklists provided under “Visa Types”. Gather together required supporting documentation for your application.

To avoid delays all supporting documentation should be submitted at the time of application

Step 3
Make an appointment with the AVAC to lodge your application and submit your biometrics

Step 4
Lodge your visa application and submit your biometric data at an AVAC. The Australian Visa Office may contact you to request additional information.
